Summer ‘24

We’ve started the front garden and the cabin borders, but both are very much a work in progress. There are salmon lupins and white agastache in the front, pale lemon-yellow foxgloves and white bleeding hearts in the cabin borders.

Two years living here and we’ve finally finished the pond. A digger helped us remove old tree trunks and after this Josh has been carving away at the shelf margins by hand. We layered sand, fleece and butyl liner. Within a few weeks of the pond being filled, the wildlife flocked to it - dragonflies, frogs, goldfinches, water boatmen and the bats. I’m keeping record of the dragonflies:

a male broad-bodied chaser (powder blue body with chocolate brown eyes), a female emperor (apple green), male common darter (red).

We’ve also had a whole rainbow of damselflies which I’m slowly documenting. Here is a beautiful demoiselle damselfly with copper coloured wings and metallic blue-green body.
